All publications on eCM have been immediately freely available upon publication since eCM was conceived in 1999, articles are freely accessible to the public without any embargo period, irrespective of who funded the research. This is equivalent to the new term "Gold Open Access" where articles are immediately available for others to read, download and share (e.g. can be uploaded on ResearchGate).

The Heart Surgery Forum (HSF)

The Heart Surgery Forum® (HSF, Print ISSN: 1098-3511, Electronic ISSN: 1522-6662) is an open access, peer-reviewed scientific journal for cardiothoracic surgery professionals. All publications are freely available upon publication, and articles are freely available to the public without any embargo period, regardless of who funded the research.

Since 2016, all eCM articles are held within the CLOCKSS and Europe PMC archive to ensure they remain available forever. CLOCKSS (Controlled LOCKSS) is a not-for-profit joint venture between the world’s leading academic publishers and research libraries, whose mission is to build a sustainable, geographically distributed dark archive to ensure the long-term survival of web-based scholarly publications for the benefit of the greater global research community.
